Welcome to Liège, a vibrant city in eastern Belgium, also known by its French name. Just one hour from Cologne or Brussels , Liège is the perfect destination for a spontaneous weekend getaway. In our video “Liège in 5 Minutes”, we’ll show you the top sights, best food spots, and a few hidden gems!

Start your trip at one of Europe’s most beautiful train stations

If you're arriving by train, you’ll be welcomed by the futuristic Liège-Guillemins Station, designed by the world-famous architect Santiago Calatrava. This stunning glass-and-steel structure is not just a station – it’s a masterpiece and a must-see for architecture lovers.

Belgian vibes: Fries, waffles & local beer

Belgian vibes: Fries, waffles & local beer

Liège is a paradise for foodies! Taste the famous Belgian fries (and yes – they’re called frites, not pommes, as locals will proudly tell you). Try the warm and gooey Liège waffle, and don’t miss a local beer tasting at Brasserie C, a cozy microbrewery right in the heart of the old town.

The city is full of life, especially on weekends – from street food stalls and craft markets to cozy cafés and live music.

Climb the city: Montagne de Bueren & scenic views

One of Liège’s most famous landmarks is the Montagne de Bueren, a steep stairway with 374 steps. If you make it to the top, you’ll be rewarded with an amazing panoramic view of the city and the surrounding hills. It’s also a great photo spot!

Even better? Continue walking towards the Coteaux de la Citadelle, a peaceful network of green walking paths, ruins, and quiet courtyards right above the city. A hidden gem for nature lovers!

Top 5 things to see in Liège

In addition to the train station and the stairway, here are five more must-sees:

01 La Boverie – a beautiful museum of modern art by the river.

02 La Cité Miroir – a former swimming pool turned into a cultural center.

03 Liège Cathedral (Saint-Paul) – with stunning Gothic architecture.

04 Opéra Royal de Wallonie – a gorgeous opera house, unfortunately closed during our visit.

You can easily explore all of this on foot – Liège is compact, authentic, and not too touristy.
