Odense, a cozy, tolerant city in the south of Denmark. Alleys with colorful houses, lots of nature and even more relaxation. Ready for a weekend trip?
Odense, Denmark’s third-largest city, is best known as the birthplace of Hans Christian Andersen. But this charming city offers so much more than fairy tales – from modern design and cozy vibes to exciting cultural and outdoor experiences.
Our first stop is the H.C. Andersen Museum – a must-visit for fans of the world-famous storyteller. The award-winning wooden architecture is stunning, and the interactive exhibition with audio guide brings Andersen’s life and fairy tales to life in a magical way. Whether you love The Little Mermaid or The Ugly Duckling, you’ll leave this museum inspired.
Next, we head to Storms Pakhus, Odense’s vibrant street food market. Housed in a former warehouse near the harbor, this is the perfect spot to try flavors from all over the world – from Danish classics and Asian fusion to vegan comfort food. The vibe is incredibly hygellig – a Danish word for cozy, warm, and welcoming. Open until 11 PM daily (even later on weekends), it’s the place to be for great food and good times.
Looking for nature and family fun? Just outside the city center is Odense Zoo, featuring a 250-meter treetop walkway with amazing views of the zoo grounds. It’s home to animals from across the globe and offers a fun experience for all ages. Nearby, you’ll find the Funen Village (Den Fynske Landsby) – a lovely open-air museum where you can step back in time and explore what rural life in Denmark was like in the 1800s. Historic homes, workshops, and gardens create a peaceful, nostalgic atmosphere.
Odense ist charmant, abwechslungsreich und voller kleiner Entdeckungen – ideal für ein verlängertes Wochenende oder als entspannter Stopp auf deiner Denmark-Rundreise.
