Arrival

Places of interest
Naples is an Italian city like no other, because it has a very special charm. But the best way to start your tour is with a historical insider tip: In Galleria Borbonica you can dive into the mysterious underworld of Naples. During World War II, the place was used as a protective bunker, after the war old vehicles were disposed of in the tunnel. On weekends there are guided tours in different languages.
Like everywhere in Italy, there are many churches in Naples. Whether large or small, they are all impressive. Gesù Nuovo is a masterpiece of the Neapolitan Baroque and inspires with its mysterious facade. Other churches worth seeing are Basilica Santa Chiara, San Domenico Maggiore, and Il Duomo di Napoli.
After visiting so many churches, it's time for a first culinary stop. L’Antica Pizzeria da Michele is the oldest pizzeria in the city, founded in the 18th century. Even soccer star Diego Maradona and the former US President Bill Clinton once ate here. The restaurant is cult, but is not good for a romantic evening. A pizza costs about 6 euros, the portions are super large. Only the typical Margherita and Marinara pizza varieties are served.
The tour continues at Piazza del Plebiscito, one of the main squares of Naples. Here you will also find Palazzo Reale, which is best visited in the evening. Then there are fewer tourists and you have the halls and corridors just for yourself. Admire the gigantic rooms before checking out Naples' nightlife.
And Quartieri Spagnoli is just the right place for it. On every corner there is a possibility where you can sit down in a bar and just watch the hustle and bustle. Here you can get an Aperol for 1 euro. For food in the evening we recommend Trattoria da Nennella: Neapolitan and simply delicious.
Have you had enough of Naples? 30 minutes from here is Pompeii. The city was completely destroyed in 79 AD after a volcanic eruption and buried under a meter-high layer of ash and pumice. The very well preserved archaeological site is one of the most visited in the world. What's striking is that here you also see people at the moment of their death. Sometimes you even think you can see fear and pain in some of the faces. A different kind of history lesson.
Next, you visit Vesuvius. You can go up to 1,000 meters by car and after a short walk you can look deep into the crater. There are also shuttle buses that run between Pompeii and Vesuvius.
At Salerno the Amalfi Coastbegins. From here you can drive by car along the 50 kilometers of coastline and visit the many small towns. But beware: The roads are very narrow and winding. Not good for young drivers. In Amalfi you will experience the typical Italian Dolce Vita. From here you can take several ferries daily to the island Capri. Ravello is one of the most romantic places at the Amalfi coast. From Villa Cimbrone you have a beautiful panoramic view of the sea and the region. The villa is a piece of paradise.
Getting around in Naples
Wenn du gut zu Fuß unterwegs bist, solltest du lieber viel laufen. Die Entfernungen zwischen den Sehenswürdigkeiten sind etwas größer, aber es gibt immer wieder etwas Nettes zu entdecken oder eine Möglichkeit, einen schnellen Kaffee zu trinken 😉 Und wenn du doch mit Bus und Bahn fahren willst: Ein Tagesticket kostet 4,50 Euro.
