The World in 5 Minutes – Schönes Deutschland | Book 1

This is our Book for the video. It is the perfect addition for Stuttgart and other popular cities in Germany.

Arrival

From Stuttgart International Airport you can reach the city centre of Stuttgart in 26 minutes by S-Bahn. The tourist information are located at the airport in Terminal 3 and in the city centre opposite the main railway station.

Hotel

We recommend City Hotel Stuttgart*. The 3-stars-accommodation is located in a quiet street just a few minutes' walk from the historic city centre and a subway station. Private parking spaces are available. A little bit more modern, but also more expensive, is the 4-stars-hotel Park Inn Stuttgart*.

Places of interest

Stuttgart's city centre seems to consist only of restaurants and shops. The historic old town was almost completely destroyed in the Second World War. Around Schillerplatz you will find some rebuilt sights, such as the Old Castle. The Alte Kanzlei houses a traditional tavern that serves specialties such as Maultaschen (“German ravioli”) and Spätzle. In the middle of the square is the Schiller Monument in honour of the German writer Friedrich Schiller. Around the corner in the glass cube is the Kunstmuseum for fine arts. From the top floor you have a wonderful view over the city.

On the Schlossplatz with the baroque New Palace in the background open-air concerts and city festivals take place. In the Königsbau there is a shopping centre with some cafés. On the shopping mile Königstraße and the parallel streets you can dine authentically, for example at Ochs’n Willi on the large terrace or at Paulaner am alten Postplatz, a tavern from 1747, which serves South German cuisine in the beer garden. And you can find a tasy burger at Triple B – Beef Burger Brothers.

While the 30 free-hanging bells of the town hall tower ring out their melodies, you can buy regional food and international specialities all day long (except Sundays) in the market hall . A photo highlight is the municipal library at Mailänder Platz. From the roof terrace you have a fantastic view.

Stuttgart has the only rock railway in Germany for public transport. The Stuttgarter Zacke is climbing from Marienplatz to the Degerloch cogwheel railway station since 1884 and takes just ten minutes for the roughly two-kilometre route. Panoramic views included.

With the underground lines U1 and U9 you can reach the station of the historic funicular railway at Südheimer Platz in ten minutes. The nostalgic train from the 1920s runs daily between 9 am and 6pm, is without charge with the day ticket and takes you to the Waldfriedhof

A beautiful hiking and recreation area is located around the Max-Eyth-See, which you can reach in 20 minutes with the U12 or U14 underground. At the foot of the vineyards you can go boating and walking.

For car fans there are two top-class museums: Mercedes-Benz-Museum at Neckarpark presents the history of the automobile from the first patent in 1886 to the hydrogen vehicle on nine levels with beautiful cars.
