Although Fehmarn is one of the sunniest places in Germany, it is often windy due to its location in the Baltic Sea. During the winter months it can be very uncomfortable, so we recommend to come during the summer months from May to September . In the summer holidays, on the other hand, Fehmarn is very popular and full of tourists.
In Fehmarn you won't find world famous sights; it's more about taking a break from daily life and just relaxing. You should definitely rent a bike. You will have even more fun with an e-bike. We have rented our bikes in Lemkenhafen at Bikespot(sponsored) , where you can also find a surf school.
There are many small villages where you can have a nice coffee or eat a delicious ice cream.

Fehmarn is different on every coast. To the west there is the water bird reserve Wallnau. The island is an important stopover for millions of birds on their long way to and from their winter quarters. The routes of land and water birds cross over the island. In the Information centre of the environmental organisation NABU you can find out more about the nature reserve. Grüner Brink is another nature reserve in the north; it is a breeding ground for rare water birds. A few kilometers further on is the town of Puttgarden, from where you can take the ferry . In less than an hour you are in Rodby Denmark .
In the south of Fehmarn there is even a sandy beachknown as the Südstrand. It's often a bit cold, but with the sun the water warms up quickly. And if you're really lucky you'll catch a day above 25°C - and then the beach day will feel like being on the Mediterranean.
