Philadelphia is one of the oldest cities in the USA. Here you can feel the history everywhere. However, Philadelphia is today a colorful and friendly city. Come with us on a tour and see what there is to experience in Philadelphia. We will show you the highlights!

Arrival

The Airport is only 15 minutes from downtown. There is even a direct train connection to the main train station. https://www.phl.org/ If you are traveling in a small group, a ride with Uber is a good low-cost alternative.

Philadelphia is easy to reach from both Washington and New York by express train.

Hotel

Unlike Washington and New York, Philadelphia is more of a low-cost destination on the US East Coast. We recommend the Hampton Inn Philadelphia Center City-Convention Center*. An overnight stay for two persons is available from 100 Euro.

Places of interest

You may know Philadelphia from the Rockymovies . One of the most famous sights in the sixth largest city in the USA: the Rocky Steps. They are located at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and are a real highlight. The well-known view towards the city center is probably known by everyone who has watched the Rocky movie.

The Eastern State Penitentiary is a ten minutes walk from the museum. It used to be the most famous and most expensive prison in the world. Even Al Capone was imprisoned here. Today's museum shows the condition of cells from different phases of the prison's history. A large part of the building is still in its original dilapidated state.

The Reading Terminal Market is a paradise for food lovers. Here you can find food from all over the world - mostly at a fair price. Our recommendation: the world famous Philly Cheese Steak. Either eat here or at Pat’s King of Steaks. The shop is open 24 hours a day. So if you get a hunger attack at night, this is the place to be! Just ignore the calories...

For Americans, Philadelphia is the birthplace of democracy. Independence was declared here in 1776. The Liberty Bell is located near Independence Hall. It was rung when the Declaration of Independence was first read in public. As an icon of independence, the bell has since then served as a national symbol.

The Elfreth’s Alley is the oldest street in the USA with over 300 years of history. The houses are all still inhabited today.

The Mural Art Map is a speciality in Philadelphia. It leads you to the most beautiful and extraordinary graffiti pictures in the whole city. The works of art are mostly within walking distance. Another artistic highlight are the Magic Gardens - the largest mosaic artwork in the world.
