Turku is the number one food city in Finland.

And on top of that, it is located in the sunniest region of the country. Today, Turku is considered a hip and lively student city with modern charm.

In Turku city centre, you can rent a bike and ride along the river to the Baltic Sea. Alternatively, you can take a long walk from the castle to the cathedral. There are many restaurants along the way, most of them serving traditional Finnish dishes. OOBU (advertising) would be one of them. Another restaurant is located in a former prison. Around Turku are the most islands in Finland.

Therefore, there is a lot of nature and water in the area. A bit out of the city, you can visit families in their homes via Local Home Visit (advertisement) and cook together. This gives you an insight into typical Finnish life. Of course, you also go to the sauna, like in Tampere or Helsinki (see our other two Finland videos).

The Turku archipelago also has a lot to offer. On many islands you can go hiking or even visit villas. We stayed at Villa Wolax (advertisement) and took a boat to see the islands.
